    Default SWG versus Chorine system

Pros and Cons to using a SWG system instead of a regular chlorine system? Seems lots of folks are going that way, but why?

Pros ---- convenience of not having to test and add chlorine as often, makes it easier to have continuity of pool care if you travel
    Cons -- expense.

If you do go with a SWCG, use it for routine chlorination but if you need to shock the pool upon opening in the spring or if you have algae, etc., then turn your SWCG off and just use bleach to super-chlorinate instead. That will make your cell last longer.

If you have a new pool, we typically suggest that you learn to manage it the first year manually to help you learn the ins and outs of pool chemistry and then add the SWCG the second season. But, it is up to you, or course, if you want to do that.

    Hope this helps.

Other noticeable advantages are the odor-free chlorination that does not irritate the eyes, or skin. No messing around with liquid chlorine. Chlorination can be easily adjusted.

Sorry, but other than the statement about not having to mess around with liquid chlorine (which is no big deal really), the rest of the statement above is not true.

A SWCG pool is a chlorine pool. Chlorine pools that smell like chlorine mean that there is not enough chlorine in them and what you are smelling is the combined chlorine. This is true on pools with SWCGs just as well as those that are manually chlorinated.
