Pros ---- convenience of not having to test and add chlorine as often, makes it easier to have continuity of pool care if you travel
Cons -- expense.
If you do go with a SWCG, use it for routine chlorination but if you need to shock the pool upon opening in the spring or if you have algae, etc., then turn your SWCG off and just use bleach to super-chlorinate instead. That will make your cell last longer.
If you have a new pool, we typically suggest that you learn to manage it the first year manually to help you learn the ins and outs of pool chemistry and then add the SWCG the second season. But, it is up to you, or course, if you want to do that.
