Default starting some repair work on my 50 year old pool. 20x40 37000 gal.

We are lucky to have a pool, but are finding it is very expensive. I have told my wife that we will have an oval shaped garden if I can't get cost down. When summer rolls around we are spending up to 400 per month for metered water, power and chemicals.

It has several problems I will be attempting to fix.

Here are a few I can think of now:
1)Cracks and chunks missing along the tile and coping. Obvious water leaks.
2)leak at pump from the filter pipe.
3)leak at pump where the motor attaches.
    4)Bad fill/float valve.
    5) Stains and spots on bottom

Probably more but those are the main problems.

I thought I would join your site and possibly get guidance and advice for the upcoming projects.

I will start posting with a title for each item. I know it would be helpful if someone else Google's a similar problem.

I guess I need to add what equipment I have in my signature.

$400 a month would make me fill it in too.

    1,2) yep, gotta fix leaks.
    3) Sounds like a shaft seal. Not too hard if you're handy - you tube has videos. Important to keep the seal mating faces clean (don't touch) and don't get any lube on the piece of the seal that grips the shaft.
    4) May be if you get the leaks fixed, you won't need a fill system.
    5) If you put a couple vitamin C tablets on it and the stain lifts, it's metal. If you put some pieces of a trichlor tab on the stain and it lifts, it's organic.

Welcome, let us know how it's going.
    That's All Folks!
