    Default installing a center drain

We are getting ready to put up our pool. We went with the 33' round Emerald Isle from Artesian. I think I understand the directions ok but Im a little confused about the drain. There are no instructions for the installation of the drain. We were encouraged to use the center drain for easier cleaning and maintenance and it sounds like a good idea, but is it?

    Any suggestions?

Hi, center drains are not for do it yourselfers. There is just way to much that can go wrong.

They are a thing of the past also. I have gone from installing 30 to 40 a year, 20 years ago, to maybe one a year now.

Automatic cleaners have been the demise of the center drain. They draw water from the bottom, therefor helping circulation, and they clean the pool. Center drains are just one more place a vinyl liner can leak from. I would not do it.

Just my opinion. Best of luck, Dennis

I would agree with Dennis--just asking for trouble. Most auto-cleaners these days would do you very nicely. You don't need a robotic in a pool like that, either.

Plus you don't have the hassles of two drains (needed to prevent suction from holding a kid down), capping them for the winter, anti-freeze, etc.

Thanks for your opinions. I think I will take that advice and go with an auto cleaner. Any suggestions on a cleaner for a pool that size. We have looked at a few but would like some experienced opinions.

Also, I would like to know if there are any other precautions we should take during installation. We will be starting this weekend and I would just like to be completely prepared while I have extra hands available.

Thanks so much for your help,
    Rustin
