    Default Pool Frog

Does the pool frog mineral device add any significant advantage over chlorination? I have had to add copper algecide to clear up a couple of troublesome spots in the pool.

    Classic misdirection by pool companies!

The pool frog and other mineral devices kill algae, nothing more. Algae, by itself, is harmless, but if you have algae, your chlorine will metabolize it (kill it) and be used up in the process.
The chlorine is then NOT available to kill the really bad stuff--bacteria, viruses, etc. So the algae keeps the chlorine from sanitizing the water.

All the mineral systems do is kill the algae so, in theory, you need less chlorine to kill the bad stuff, because you don't have to kill the algae, too.

MINERAL DEVICES DO NOT SANITIZE YOUR POOL!

So it has NO advantage over chlorine. While you use less chlorine, the mineral system usually costs you more than you save on chlorine.

Plus there are SCADS of problems associated with excessive copper and silver in your water, not the least of which is turning blond hair green!
