I was wondering if I need to worry about TA and calcium hardness? I decided to test for both of them and the numbers that I got were both much lower than what my K-2006 manual says.

TA is only a concern if your pH is bouncing around. CH is only a concern in a softsided or vinyl pool if it is too high. The K2006 kit is great, the book that comes with it is not. Forget the book and just go by the advice from the forum.
What are your current test results, by the way?
Thanks Watermom. Here's my results from testing last night
TA -40
CH - 90
pH- 7.4
FC - 7.0
CYA - 50

Your numbers look just fine. Your TA is low but it's no problem unless your pH is wandering around. Then, you could bump it up some but otherwise, don't worry about it.
Good job!
Thank you. After two days of heavy playing and swimming in the pool, my FC dropped to 5.0, pH level is at 7.4. I have not needed to add any bleach to the pool for over 1 1/2 weeks. Today will be another day of lot's of pool usage. I am sure that tonight I may finally need to add bleach. My pool has been a beautiful crystal clear. So clear that my youngest children said "it looks like the water in the Bahamas" Now that is definitely a compliment!!!!!

I can't believe with a CYA of 50, you haven't had to add bleach in over 1-1/2 weeks? How high did you take the chlorine when you last added bleach?
The book that comes with it is not totally useless. The last page is firm white paper stock and I hold my oto test results against it.![]()
