I've been a pool owner for 11 years. This year is the toughest to get my pool water cleared up.
I live in Southern California in a high wind corridor. It is hell on pools due to the amount of sand/dirt along with high amounts of vegetation that blows into my pool.
I have been using test strips in the past but a little reading here has me convinced to go back to a K2006 test kit.
I think I am high on stabilizer CYA and have read here that that could affect chlorine use. I seem to going through a lot of it this year.
I wish I had found this site a while back.

Low CYA will definitely cause you to have trouble maintaining a chlorine reading. On the other hand, having something organic in your pool can also cause a big chlorine demand.

Post some current water testing results taken with your K2006 and somebody here can take a look and try and help.

Meanwhile, go get a cheap OTO / phenol red drops kit and 6 gallons of PLAIN 8% Walmart bleach (for each 10K gal in your pool). Start dosing with 1 gallon per 10K gallons (~8 ppm) and MAINTAIN orange-tinted yellow OTO results (off-scale!) till you get the K2006 . . .
