I know this isn't my thread, but I've got a quick question about the CYA test too...

When I do my testing I generally sit at my kitchen table. I do my CYA test standing at the window (my kitchen window faces East, so I get morning sun). This morning my results standing at the window were 50. Just for kicks I stepped outside on my porch in the direct sunlight to see what I got there. Out on the porch I was able to add more of the testing mixture before the last hint of the dot completely disappeared and got a reading of 40. So, which is the most accurate reading?

I can't recall what the directions in the PS234 kit say but I would guess that you want to do the test in daylight away from direct sunlight. That way you could do the test and get fairly consistent results no matter whether the sun is shining or not (unless it's very overcast of course).

don't get too uptight about getting really really accurate results.

I don't think anyone here will tell you they can advise you to run the pool chemistry much different at 40 ppm or 50 ppm You just need to know that you are near 40 ppm and not 80 or 10.

Give this man a cigar! People get a bit too paranoid at test results. Some need to be very accurate (FC, TC, CC) some are ok within a small range (pH),
some have a much wider range to be 'OK' in (TA, CH, CYA)
