Do you have solar and is it running when you see the air?

Also by skimmer pot, do you mean the skimmer by the pool or the pump basket?

After the pump runs for a while does the air go away?

Most of the time an air leak is on the suction side of the pump but there are a few cases where air leaks can be caused by solar or a multi-port gasket leak.

    Thanks for your reply..
It shows air on return while running...I meant pump basket ( sorry)
No Matter how long it runs the air never goes away. I don't have solar (not sure what that means)
There is a clear tube that runs from the top of the pump into the multi port valve and I see the air moving through that clear tube, but no air shows up in the basket. All the returns will show air also, not just the stair return or the front returns.
    Thanks again

Maybe the drain plug is loose or its gasket is missing? Maybe the lid seal is leaking a little on the hinge side?

If you see air leaving the pump, it means air is entering the pump on the suction side and most likely in the pump basket. Since you can't see air in the pump basket, it could be the drain plugs that are causing the issue. Did you also replace those gaskets? You can also try pool lube to see if that fixes the issue.

I've written most of a new sticky on finding suction problems, here: http://pool9.net/suction/

In your case, I'd disconnect and plug this tube and the opening it connects to, and see if that resolves you 'leak'. (I'd also try to figure out where this tubing is going, and why it's there -- it's not typical of SuperPump installations.)
