If you're going to do it yourself, this is probably what you want:Hayward SP3400VSP EcoStar VSBut, you'll need to check: in the US, Pentair has cut their warranty on do-it-yourself installations back to almost nothing. That might not be true in Canada. Or course, if you hire it done by a pool guy, he'll buy it (I assume) and the warranty problem won't be an issue.
and this:
Intermatic PS3000 Pool Surge Protector
Regardless, get a surge protector. The VS pumps are NOT as reliable as the pump you are replacing, and sensitive & very expensive electronics are the reason.
Also, if you can put some sort of cover over the pump so it doesn't get rained on, that might be a good idea. I've seen reports of water infiltrating the electronics.
But, do NOT compromise pump ventilation! Shade? Good! Rain cover? Good! Reduced airflow? Very, very bad!
