Default total alkalinity & ph questions

Although several people have told me that these two are the same, from what I read online they are connected but in fact not a single issue. My TA is quite high and the fact that I keep my pool covered with a solar blanket except when use (Probably less than an hour a day) is adding to my problem. If I leave my pool uncovered for several days and add about a qt. of acid a day, until the ta is about at 120 ppm, should this solve my issue.
My pool is concrete and 15,000 gal. Also should the pump be off when adding acid and should the acid be poured in one spot or around in the deeper area.

Default Re: total alkalinity & ph questions

Functionally, "total alkalinity" or TA is the resistance to change in pH possessed by a particular sample of water.

Lowering carbonate alkalinity (the portion of TA caused by dissolved carbonates and bicarbonates) is covered here: http://pool9.net/alk-step

Generally speaking, you can't lower TA in a covered pool, unless you have a mass aerator in action, such as an ozone venturi or a spa jet in the steps.
