What pool calculator did you use? The one I use is here: http://pool9.net/bleach-calc/
There is another one that some people use but I don't really care for that one. I cannot answer why the big discrepancy. It could be that your volume is not really 40K or it could be because of some other reason. I don't know.

Can you give a full set of readings taken this morning, please. Is the pool cloudy?

It is probably ok to vacuum this morning unless the chlorine is still ridiculously high.

High chlorine can bleach out a liner. It doesn't always but there is no way to know what point is 'too high' for various liners. They are all different.

Skin can take pretty high chlorine levels, but swimwear not so much. So, if you do swim, wear an old suit. Let's wait to see what your readings are first.

I will have to test when I get home. I didnt have time before work. Is that a problem? I figured since it was so high it should be at some level of shock all day. I will make sure tonight to test and then again in the am to see the loss. I need to conserve the regent cause it wont be here for two days. I ordered more yesterday.
Water is a little cloudy but not bad. My husband is running the auto vacuum to save the filter cartridge. I figure its easier to clean and replace if needed and will also disinfect the vacuum with the high chlorine.
The calculator I used was called The Pool Calculator and is from poolcalculater.com I guess. I found the link on your site. You put in goals and "now" and it figures it out.

Let me know if I am on the right track. The deep end floor looks faded but that could be from age and all the powdered crap I used last year that got my CYA so high. I am just worried that the liner will get brittle. I checked the chart from chemgeek that tells you the amount of active chlorine and I was just around 2 last night but hopefully today will be better. That shouldnt be too bad right?
I am hoping that my numbers error on the high side.

Ok...I just tested everything again. I know some of these will change when the chlorine comes down.
Thenwater is a little cloudy but much better than this am. Not crystal clear yet. All debri is gone but still a little dirty. I plan to vacuum tomorrow and clean the filter too since the pressure has climbed a bit.

With a CYA level of 60ppm, then your shock level would be 20ppm. So, don't add any more chlorine tonight. Test again in the morning within an hour or so of sunrise. You don't have to retest everything, just test FC and CC. Report how much loss you had (FC) overnight. If you lose more than 1ppm of chlorine OR if you have greater than 0.5ppm of CC, then you need to raise the chlorine back up to shock level in the morning.

Should I scrub again today or just vacuum? I didnt scrub yesterday.
I will test later in the day and if it has dropped should I bring it back up to keep it shocked for one more night? Then let it come down naturally?

Go ahead and brush and if something to vacuum up, do that, too. Yes to keeping chlorine high for another day. Run your pump 24/7 until it is totally cleared up.
