too much chlorine trying to slam to fight algae

I opened my pool to a green mess. I have a feeling it was left over algae that I never got a handle on last year.
My CYA was exremely high last year so when the pool company opened it this year I asked them to not put any chemicals in. They put in algaeside but thats it, which was probably wasted anyway.
My first test showed
Chlorine 0
PH 7.2
TA 120
CYA 62
Salt 2200
I have the TF 100 kit and salt kit.

I used the calculator and it said 2903 oz of chlorine to reach 35ppm shock. I chose the highest shock because I dont know what kind of algae I have since last year it wasnt green but slippery and slimy with beautiful water.
I thought I might have a combination upon opening since the water was green.
I bought walmart 121 oz...8.24% bleach.
This AM I put in 1815 oz of bleach. I couldnt stomach putting in the entire recommened amount.
I waited an 2 hours and the chlorine was 38ppm. At 6 hours it was at 24ppm.
The calculator said add 633 oz. I added 3 jugs....366 oz....now its at 42.5! I am nervous that I will ruin my liner!,
I wanted to see how much it went down ovenight.
I have used so much of the regent...I ordered more!
I turned the swg down to the lowest setting...I am unable to turn it off.
There is a margin of error because its the first time I have ever tested this way so I am sure there were variations in my procedure and on the last test I may be off one drop... (when you are counting to 80 you can miss a drop)
Please help! I was so hoping to be free from the pool store but I am really scared I have damaged the liner

Oh my gosh I justbread a thread that said sodium hypo hlorite is bad!,, that is what is in the walmart bleach!

Sodium hypochlorite is not bad. Many people on this forum use Walmart bleach all the time.

Basically you are going to have to just wait and let the chlorine come down. If your pool is really green with algae, it may not take too long. And, your chlorine may have not been as high as you think for too long. Algae will consume it pretty quick.

But, you are right, excessively high chlorine levels can damage a liner.

A couple questions
Why is there such a discrepancy between my results and the pool calculator?
Should I use the lower shock level now and test to keep itnthere a couple of days?
Can I vacuum now with the automatic vacuum?
What kind of damage does high chlorine do?
How long before we cam swim?

What pool calculator did you use? The one I use is here: http://pool9.net/bleach-calc/
There is another one that some people use but I don't really care for that one. I cannot answer why the big discrepancy. It could be that your volume is not really 40K or it could be because of some other reason. I don't know.

Can you give a full set of readings taken this morning, please. Is the pool cloudy?

It is probably ok to vacuum this morning unless the chlorine is still ridiculously high.

High chlorine can bleach out a liner. It doesn't always but there is no way to know what point is 'too high' for various liners. They are all different.

Skin can take pretty high chlorine levels, but swimwear not so much. So, if you do swim, wear an old suit. Let's wait to see what your readings are first.

I will have to test when I get home. I didnt have time before work. Is that a problem? I figured since it was so high it should be at some level of shock all day. I will make sure tonight to test and then again in the am to see the loss. I need to conserve the regent cause it wont be here for two days. I ordered more yesterday.
Water is a little cloudy but not bad. My husband is running the auto vacuum to save the filter cartridge. I figure its easier to clean and replace if needed and will also disinfect the vacuum with the high chlorine.
The calculator I used was called The Pool Calculator and is from poolcalculater.com I guess. I found the link on your site. You put in goals and "now" and it figures it out.

Let me know if I am on the right track. The deep end floor looks faded but that could be from age and all the powdered crap I used last year that got my CYA so high. I am just worried that the liner will get brittle. I checked the chart from chemgeek that tells you the amount of active chlorine and I was just around 2 last night but hopefully today will be better. That shouldnt be too bad right?
I am hoping that my numbers error on the high side.
