I think you may be suffering from a common error, that a "salt pool" differs from "chlorine pool". In fact, SWCGs -- salt systems -- are actually Salt Water Chlorine Generators! Essentially, an SWCG is nothing more than a way of manufacturing chlorine on-site and delivering it immediately to your pool.
The misconception arose some years ago when at least one of the companies that first began marketing SWCG's described them as "natural" and avoided all reference to chlorine. Deceptive? Of course. Effective? Yes, because so many people are at least a little afraid of chlorine.
"Natural" *sounds* good, even though all the diseases that are sometimes transmitted via pools (giardia, shigella, novovirus, psuedomonas, Legionnaires, etc) are ALL entirely "natural". But people imagine nature in terms of TV -fairy glades, and not in terms of ticks, mosquitoes and bird poop. WaterMom can assure you that I really, really like 'nature' including many bits of it that would send her screaming into the house. But most people don't -- not really -- and even I don't want to get a nice natural GI infection when I swim!
