Default some quick pump help please!

Pool tech came over and set up pump and filter to extension cord to run it while we wait for electrician. Blew circuit breaker when son ran hair dryer on same line. When I reset breaker and turned equip back on a lot of air came bubbling thru returns and it flipped my skimmer baskets over-sending all the junk back into the pool. Is this normal? I unplugged the filter and called tech but hasn't gotten back yet. Is there supposed to be water in the pump basket or not? I see some junk in there but I didn't notice any water.

Also it seems that my filter is leaking. Beads of water forming at base-enough to make a stream of water. I have a Jacuzzi Magnum force pump and Jacuzzi cartridge filter.

    Thanks so much!

yes, the pump basket must be full of water...this gives you the "prime" on the pump. With a leak its best to wait for the tech to come back out and let him take care of it. I'm a bit leary of the whole extension cord idea...how long before you get proper wiring?
