    Default Testing cya with 2006

I'm testing cya with my 2006 kit. Everything is ok, ch. is 3.0 but cya vile goes to the top with the water and its barely cloudy. So how do I get an exact reading? Thanks Dave G.

This indicates that your CYA is very low. The lowest reading the K2006 kit shows is 30, so if you're filling up to that mark and you can still see the dot you need more CYA (Stabilizer). Have you recently drained & refilled your pool?

no I haven't drained and refilled. I will probably put more stabilizer in tomorrow, hoping that will work

How did you add stabilizer and when? If you poured it in the skimmer, it may take 4 or 5 days to completely dissolve.

still don't know how to get a closer reading than the 2006. Closest it reads is 30. I go to a REAL pool store 3rd generation they only own one and I'll see if they can test it better

No test can detect a CYA level lower than 30. If it has been two weeks since you last added stabilizer and you still don't have a reading, you can just assume that your reading is less than 30 and you need to add more. I would only add a dose that would add about 20ppm more, though. If your current reading is close to 30, that would put you at around 50ppm which would be a good reading.

ok Watermom, I hear you but how much do I put in I could put in liquid again and that would be faster but if I put in powder it could take weeks. I don't know how much to raise from less than 30 to 50. Like at 13000 gallon what would be the formula for adding the amount?

Adding 2 lbs. of granular CYA should add around 20ppm. It won't take weeks to dissolve but maybe a week. Or, if you prefer, use the liquid. Faster but more expensive. I can't comment on the proper dosing of the liquid, though, as I always use granular.
