Hi and Welcome.
I'm not the one to ask but I'd guess an epoxy paint would be required.
I need to paint the metal border around my in-ground pool (it would be the piece that the concrete is poured against, just above the liner lip), will be repainting it white. What is recommended or would simple oil based paint be sufficient after some light sanding.

Epoxy application is not difficult, but it is demanding. Still, it's probably your best choice. Tech bulletins here

will give exact how-to info.

We just sold out boat and had some leftover Interlux Brightside Polyurethane paint (Hatteras White... which is an off-white and not the mega-white it was prior) that we used to paint our faded coping just this past weekend. It covered easily. It's a paint designed for the marine environment and should hold up very well. Only did a light sanding (to prevent too much dust from going in the water) and wiped with acetone. Used a nice brush. The results are fantastic. We may do another light sanding and second coat, but the jury ius still out on that.
Hope this helps.
Hadn't thought of that - paint that is durable in boat service should work for pools, too.
