    Question Run time vs. Cell %

    I recently installed an Aquarite SWG system. Now that the summer temps have arrived, I am having a difficult time keeping the TC level up. Each time I test I with an OTO kit, it's .5 and have noticed a few small areas with a slight green tint. When the pump is on and I test the water returning into the pool, it is 2ppm at the return.

    I run my CYA at 60ppm which is within the level of the SWG manufacture.

    My IG pebble pool is 16.5K and my salt is 2900ppm and I run my pump for 7 hours which is enough to cycle the entire volume at least once.

    Should I increase my pump time or my cell %? Also do you think I should break up the pump run time? Now, it's late afternoon into the early evening. Should I maybe run about 3.5 hours twice per day instead? Also, even though I am well within my recommend salt level, is there any advantage to having the salt at the higher end of the recommendation? I can go up to 3400ppm on my system. Becuase I have a black pepple pool, it's very comon to have the morning temp at 78-80 and an evening temp of 85-88 each day. Sometimes it even hits 90+.

    Running time vs. cell time is difficult to call some times. Living in Central Florida we have been running at 12 hours a day. We could probably split that up into 2 x 6 hour periods, but have not looked into it yet.

    It always helps to keep the salt level at the higher end of the range as well, to help Cl production.

    Your pH at 7.8 is a bit high to help much in generating chlorine, and by keeping between 7.2 to 7.6, the FC should come up some. With temps you are quoting you might have to maintain 5 - 6 ppm which means increasing your CYA according to Ben's Best Guess chart.

    See what happens to your CL ppm, once the pH is around 7.4 ppm, and adjust your cell % accordingly.

    The aquarite can generate 1.45lbs of chlorine in a 24 hour period. This is equivalent to 1.45 Gallons of 12.5% bleach. So the maximum, your SWCG could put in the pool running at 100% for 24 hours is 11 ppm. So if your running 7 hours at 100%, chlorine put in is 3.2 ppm. For 2 ppm, you would need a setting of 65%.

    However, the numbers given above is what is put into the pool not necessarily what you would measure since chlorine is constantly used up. So to keep a certain level, you must run it a bit longer.

    This morning I increased it from 35% to 45%.

    Definitely. If I get lax and let my pH slide upward I notice my FC drops. Keeping it on the low end, like you suggest, definitely causes my FC to increase.
