Default High CYA + high chlorine pool

We are relatively new pool owners! In ground, 24,000 gal, DE filter, non heated pool. We use Chlorox and muratic acid and pretty much nothing else to run our pool. We run a high cyanuric pool (80+). But from this site I have learned that I can run a high CL pool to balance it. This site has been a great place to help me overcome my apprehension of running a clean pool. I no longer buy any chemicals at the pool store. Every once and a while I get stumped and need some help so I look forward to having y'all's help! MKb

Hi! Welcome. Looks like you are already in good shape. You can certainly run your pool with a CYA between 80 and 90ppm. Just keep your FC (Free Chlorine) between 5ppm and 10ppm and when/if you need to shock it, raise it to 20ppm. If you decide to put in an SWCG, you'll want it to keep FC at 5% or more of your CYA level (CYA=80 ===> FC >= 4).
