If your chlorine demand is caused by something in your water, then shocking it is the only way to get rid of it. Have you tested for cc? that would tell you if it's the sun or your pool water that's consuming your chlorine. If you have no cc, then I'd consider raising your CYA and see if that helps.

Aylad thank you for your reply.

FC and TC are the same, therefore no CC, so I will start raising it by 5 ppm until I can get it to hold.

What do think the daily reduction should be in ppm?

Will advise when it holds, this may help others in Hawaii.

I don't usually disagree with Carl and Jan, but I don't think it is that unusual to lose 3ppm in a day. Especially if it is really hot and sunny. I, too, will sometimes lose 3 in a day with cya around 35-40. Of course, as they suggested, you can try and raise your cya some and see if that helps.

    Thank you Watermom.

I am raising it to 50 as of this evening (Saturday 9pm - Hawaii Time).

I will advise you all of the results in 5 days; this gives it some time to establish continuity.

    Aloha

I wouldn't mind having that problem if I could live in Hawaii! [green with envy]

I hope it's not a vinyl lined pool--you are risking damaging the liner pushing FC to 50ppm. About the highest you can go is 25ppm but only if the stabilizer level (CYA) is over 100ppm.

Oops! Yeah, raising CYA to 50ppm is a reasonable strategy...Sorry...My Bad!

Once again thank you for all the replies and concerns.

Yes the pool is gunite and the CYA level is being raised to 50 ppm.

And as far as Hawaii goes, recently due to the world climate change we have noticed a few clouds in the sky so we are thinking of moving! Or maybe we should just drink a few extra Mai Tais!

    Aloha
