    Default Algae: brush or vacuum?

First I want to say thank you for the excellent advice I have read on these boards. This site is so great!

I always hear about different types/colors of algae but the algae in my pool always seems to be grey, like dust on the floor of the pool. Only once did I see dark colored algae (had the pool 4 years). Is this grey stuff even algae?

Should I vacuum this up (time consuming) or brush it (quick) to mix it up & let the filter get it?

    Thanks for the help.
