Thread: calculation for borax

    Default calculation for borax

Is there a nifty chart/formula/calculator (like the bleach one) somewhere for adding Borax?

    something like...

to raise you pH: for every .1 add X amount (lbs or cups) per 1000 gallons...

    Thanks,

    Beth

Search for the bleach calculator, it also does many other water attributes.

    I found it here -

    http://www.hal-pc.org/%7Emwsmith2/BleachCalc262.exe

Just read about BBB's under one of the stickies in the forum and between that advice and the calulator you should be able to understand how much borax to add

That's an old link that won't work. Use the updated new one in my sig.

The calculator doesn't do borax calcs for pH, unfortunately.

It would be really tough to do, because how much Borax it takes to raise a given size pool by a certain amoun, varies with the total alk level. It takes less Borax at a T/A of, say, 80, than it does in the same pool with a T/A of, say, 160.

Exactly. That's also why the calc is currently set to only adjust pH in 0.2 increments right now...it doesn't allow for alk. Within 0.2, the alk won't affect it too much. Still a good idea to go slow (as with any chemical addition).

Ok I am not getting it. Sorry.
I have the bleach calculator. Where do I find how to use it for Borax?

    What is a sticky?

    Sorry to be so slow.

    FYI here are my numbers
    FC zero
    CC zero

(I really shocked it 15+ before we left for a week It was still covered with pump running and it bottomed out before we got back)

    Alk 110
    pH 7.2
    Cya 30
    CA 150

    I have a 17 x 33 above ground ( I think it is 18,000 gallons?)

    Thanks,

    Beth

The BleachCalc does not do calculations for Borax to raise pH.

    alrighty then.

I guess I need the chemical calulator that I saw mentioned in other posts. (been digging around some more).
None of the links I find are working. Not sure what the problem is...

Don't know what is going on with the calc links, but if you will post your pool's volume and what chemical you need to adjust, someone who has the calc downloaded can help you figure out a dose.
