I am not very knowledgable about the Hamilton index. Is it any better or worse than the Langalier Index?
As I have an ongoing iron fight with red dust (ferric oxide, aka rust) being blown into my pool I try to keep the ph at or around 7.4 as recommended by persons on this forum. This seems to really help. I keep my alkalinity at 100. Unfortunately this requires daily addition of muriatic acid and 2 to 3 times a week, a 15 ppm upward adjustment of the alkalinity with baking soda.
I was looking at this index and thinking of allowing my ph to rise to 7.8; at that level I hardly ever have to add chemicals. The question is am I inviting a return of the iron stains.
Any help would be appreciated.
