My pool was neglected for about a month due mostly to illness and the beginning of school chaos. During that time, algae took over and now it is in full bloom. The algae is covering the bottom and steps, but the walls are not green and the water itself is clear. Last night I took the first steps to tackling the problem. I used my Taylor K2006 test kit and this is what I found:

CYA = 70 ppm
pH = 8.0+
TA = 80 ppm
FC = 0

I added Muriatic Acid to drop the pH to 7.3, then I added 6 gallons of 8.25% bleach to raise the FC level to 28 (according to The Pool Calculator). I'm sorry I forgot to go back out and take another FC reading before bedtime. :\

This morning the water was a little cloudy and the FC was 15. I added 2.5 gallons of 8.25% bleach to bring the FC back up to shock level. Do I go out and brush the bottom and sides now or wait until the algae looks grey or whitish? Basically, what is the next step?

A little more info to share: My pump is now running on high (it had been running 24/7 on low for the past month) and although I have an AquaSmarte Mineral System, it is empty and I haven't installed a new mineral pac, so that shouldn't be an issue.

Any and all help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!
