Default How to Test after Shock

OK, guys I need hit in the head with a hammer here to help me understand this. I shocked my pool to 12ppm (based on Mikes calculator). When I check it in the morning what test am I doing - is it the Total chlorine test and if so I do I figure out how much extra bleach to add to get back to 12ppm?

Im using a walmart kit and my vial only goes to 5 and its only the TC test.

Cold really use some help here for the morning reading
    Thanks
    Robert

Yes, you're doing the total chlorine test. If your test shows results darker yellow than 5 ppm, then take equal parts pool water and distilled water, mix well, then test again, read your results, and multiply by 2. That will give you the starting point to figure out how many more ppm you need to raise your Cl to get back to 12.
