    Post hard water

lots of calcium in pool water - hardness reads over a 1000.

i am bringing the TA and alkalinity down following your protocol and it seems to be working. i am manually aerating the water and hopefully the hardness will dissipate.

Nope. Aerating remove carbonate alkalinity, not calcium hardness.

The only way to remove hardness, is to precipitate it. And, with CH=1000, that's something to consider. Read this post on removing calcium: http://www.poolforum.com/pf2/showthread.php?16992

    Meanwhile:

    1. Get a K2006. Test kit info page link in my blue signature block.

    2. When you have the kit, test BOTH your pool water AND your fill water.

    3. Report results here.

PS: Lower your alkalinity will reduce the liklihood of scale formation -- so it's worth something. But it would be better to lower alkalinity AFTER removing calcium.
