Chlorine kills bacteria that can cause disease, chlorine is cheap, and it always works.
We're planning to have an ecosmarte system installed on a new vl pool, but I still have some concerns. I want to go with a SWG but my wife likes the idea of a non-chlorine pool.
I would just like to know if this thing is going to work like it's described. Will it sanitize the water and keep it crystal clear? Anyone have any firsthand experience with the ecosmarte system?

I've been running an Aquarite SWG in our 26K gallon pool since early March. The water has never been anything but crystal clear. I run about 40 PPM CYA. The SWG is set at 40% running for 12 hours each night. When I took a water test yesterday there was zero CC (or so litttle it could not be measured with my Taylor 2006 kit) and FC was about 4 PPM .
The only chemical maint. I do is to add about a quart of acid once a week to keep PH in check.
I do have a poolskim that keeps the surface of the water clean and a pool rover than maintains the bottom. I usually run the rover a couple of times a week.

We ended up going with the ecosmarte. I asked him to put in a SWG twice during the construction based on the information I gained here. But, the builder encouraged us to try the copper ionizer/oxidizer. He said we had 60 days and could change if we're not happy.
The pool walls and floor are very slick. The water seems to be pretty clear. The Ph was around 7.2 but he told me to keep the Ph low, around 6.6, and the water hard, very hard. He added muriatic acid and calcium chloride. I tested the Ph and didn't seem to budge so I added more acid. It's around 7.0 now.
Now I've read the heat pump manual and it says we should have 0 ppm copper, much softer water, and a Ph between 7.2 and 7.4. I've also now read that low Ph is hard on the liner. We want to ask him to switch us to the Aquarite SWG, but I'm not sure how the copper (.4) that now in the water will react. Will it cause staining? Can the switch be done easily?
