I would say at least 16-20 oz. I did it by volume 4 cups last night, but that is approx. 20 oz.

Watermom, its hard to tell weight as my conditioned didn't come in a bag, just a tub. But looking back if I were to put the 4# in bag form it would probably be 3 bags, hence 3 #

Well Watermom, another reason for me to look at what I'm doing. My pool man sold me what I was told was stabilizer, ( I've had this stuff for 3 months) started reading closely...94% calcium chloride!!!!!!! This stuff is for calcium, NOT stabilizer. my readings are not bad luckily its been unseasonably cool here but in the morning I'm heading to get 2 items.
1. Stabilizer. 2. Shock that is Trichloro. Wish me luck. Learning the hard way

DansDad: Let me jump in here since I've been having some stabilizer issues as well.... Once you're pool guy sells you the "correct" stabilizing product, perhaps dose as if you have a CYA reading of -Zero- Most stabilizers read 1 lb of stabilizer in 3000 gallons gives you a CYA level of 40ppm...Based on that math, you would need 4 lbs.
Following the direction on the FORUM and NOT on the container label, place the stabilizer in a tied off sock, and place the sock in front of your pools return...(( You probably will not be able to get 4 lbs of granules in one sock ))... Give the sock a "squeeze" every so often to hurry the process...
After the stabilizer has dissolved into the water, you really need to wait a good 5-7 days prior to testing for CYA to get an accurate read, for it takes that long for the CYA to "enter" the water.
FYI: only ingredient you should see on the Stabilizer container is: Cyanuric Acid: 100%

DansDad,
I doubt you'll be able to buy trichlor shock. Most shock is dichlor or cal-hypo. Why don't you just buy some plain, unscented bleach to use to shock the pool and then just add some CYA separately.
That I can and.WILL DO thanks much

stabilizer is in socks and in pool. bleach too, but I found trichloro to use if needed gotta wait till cya kicks in. And STMA Chime in anytime you wish. if it were not for this site I would be a MESS. waiting now hopefully it wont get blistering hot and I can control the pool
