slippery steps

We just put in a liner pool with liner steps and I slipped and fell on the first step yesterday. Are there non slip strips that I can put on my steps so that others don't slip and fall? Also, I'm looking for strips that can be applied underwater so that I don't have to drain my pool. Does anyone know of anything I can use?

Diane, don't know of any strips, but it's been my experience that liners only get that slippery when there's algae present, it doesn't need to be visable. I think that if you keep an eye on your fc and cc, the liner will be safe to walk on.

Just a thought but how about strips they sell for bath tubs? Have no idea what it does to vinyl but I suspect, nothing. It may not even stick to vinyl.

Dave, I can almost garuantee that you have algae in your pool. The difference is that the algae in your pool is dead from a sufficient fc level and will soon be filtered out
MY experience with pools is a lot different from most of the members here, I don't own one (the condo association won't let me put one in [and I think they're begining to suspect I put in the 2, 1000000 gal storage tanks, under the parking lot, for the water everyone sends me. ]), usually the only reason I see a pool is because it needs to be built or there is a problem. I've never known the joy/ hastle of having my own pool. (I'm going to start a thread in China or Off topic on this) I wanted to make sure that Diane's cl levels were right, as she's a newbie, sometimes the 'simple fix' is the right one and I didn't know a way to give her what she needed.
However, I've come up with a possible pool solution. Without draining any water, use the bathtub strips (though the fish shaped ones would be more apropriate) but coat the back, glued, side with liner patch glue - (bonus - when applying the patch, or in this case, strips,- use a wallpaper roller to work out any wrinkles or air bubbles, works like magic!). Just my $.02, what do I know? - Ted

Could be. I'm no expert at all, but every pool contractor we interviewed (4) told us that vinyl liners on steps were very slippery and they all suggested at least using hand rails if we went that route. At least the contractors willing to put vinyl on the steps. A couple just refused to do it saying we would be thankful. But we really didn't like the look of premolded steps, swimouts and entries, so we gave in and payed extra for a gunite pool.

I still wonder why contractors couldn't at least build gunite steps and shallow entries with vinyl pools instead of the fiberglass or plastic entries that look like fiberglass and plastic? Contractors I I suggested this idea gave no reason that it couldn't be done, they just never heard of the idea before and didn't want to try it.

I think the vinyl liner patch glue was a great suggestion.

We are in the process of blding a 18x36 vinyl lined pool with steps in the corner. Using block, but could have been done with concrete forms they are just a lot of extra weight. My father in law has done this many times. The www.poolwarehouse.com, where I bought my kit, has a some info on this option. Its at the bottom of the page, on the "brochure" tab ; inground pool section. I was also concerend about the possible slickness of the liner on the steps, but the suggestion by waste sound great. chris

What I'm suggesting is making the steps from gunite and plaster attaching the vinyl around the steps the same as the fiberglass steps, not covering them. That way you get a nice nonslick step that you can customize to your liking, and you don't need the vinyl liner modified to fit over the steps.
