Is it better for circulation if you point your returns up or down? I have an 18 x 36 inground vinyl pool with no main drain, one skimmer and two returns. (I also have a polaris with a booster pump).

    Thanks

Down helps mix the water better to lower levels but up helps the skimmers so if you have more than one it is best to do both.

I have a 20x40 and keep one up and one down which works great. Do you get adequate circulation with just one skimmer? I ask as mine has a main drain and two skimmers so I am kind of surprised that you get by with only one on a pool that is not that much smaller surface wise.

The pool stays suprisingly clean. I was worried at first when I started reading this forum and a lot of people seem to have more returns and skimmers, but my water stays crystal clear and my chemicals are balanced. So I guess everything is working fine.
