Thanks guys, the reason for the posting (kinda cross-posting sorry) is that I was getting paranoid I wasn't filtering as the pool although crystal clear showed alot of small debris once I went underwater with goggles on. I'd thought running the "overkill" pump and filter for 4 hours in a 5500 gallon AG pool would eliminate all debris.

I may backwash today just to look, and might open her up for a quick peek.

Replaced the guage and took the top off to take a look.
Kinda funny since I have no idea what it should look like!

Anyways, there was around 6 inches of clear water and I could see some debris on top of the sand.

Put my hand in a felt the sand (again, no idea why) , it felt like... wet sand and soft enough to poke in.

So...I won't bug anymore, does this sound like a finely tuned working pump?

Oh, with pump on the guage reads 10 and off reads 0...
