An oversize pump might damage your solar panels . . . but it won't cause them to fail to operate, unless they blow up.
New user & it looks like I have to post here first.
We have an Intex 12' pool & this year I purchased a bigger pump to keep it cleaner - a 2500 gph Intex pump. Now it seems that the Game Solar Pro heater we have isn't heating the water. I know there is a bypass kit for filters over 1 hp but I think the 2500 filter is only a 1/2 hp. (My theory is that the water is going too quickly through the solar tubes to be heated properly). Anyone have any advice? Thanks in advance!!!

How are you figuring that the solar's not working?
If the water moves through the solar collector faster, it won't get as warm but it will move more heat into the pool.

Thanks for the replies. The solar heater is one of those rigid plastic dome - shaped models so I don't think the fast water would be able to harm the tubing.
The temp in the pool is not going up. I remember last year (using the pathetic pump that comes with these pools), the incoming water was HOT. This year, it feels the same as the pool water. I have it in full sun.
That would be expected, if you had much fast flow rates.
But in terms of total heat added to your pool, the end result from 2 gpm at 15 degrees hotter than the pool, is the same is 20gpm at 1.5 degrees hotter than the pool.
