Default Can corroded ladder cause metal stains?

Several springs ago we inserted our metal ladders before fixing the acidity of the water and the underwater part of the ladders turned dark grey, and a grey stain appeared at the water line. I'm assuming the acidity in the water did this. The pool has just been repainted and I'm wondering if there's any danger of the ladders still causing a stain. Does anyone know if that's likely? Any suggestions?
