The light in my pool is functional, but it does not act as expected. There are 2 switches labeled "light" and "color". When the light is on, the color switch turns on a motor that rotateds colored lenses (blue, green, purple and clear). The oddity is when turning on the light... When I flip the switch, nothing happens for a few seconds, then the light flickers. The frequency of flickering increases gradually for the next 30 seconds or so until the light begins to glow steadily. Once that happens, it starts dim and gradually gets brighter over the next few minutes. This is typical of a fluorescent bulb or murcury-vapor, but I cannot find anything on the web (or this forum) about pool lights using either of those types of lighting. I cannot get in the pool yet, so I don't know who manufactured the light. Everything else on the pool is Hayward (about 10 years old) so it is possible the light is the same.
While the light works, the legth of time it takes to "ignite" suggests it may need replacement soon. I would like to research that ahead of time, but I can't figure out where to start. Any ideas?
