Default High CH but no problems with pool is lowering CH necessary?

    Hi,

I'm back from last year and tested this seasons water with a net gain of 300 ppm CH. My pool shows no problems whatsoever, the water is pristine sparkling blue. Should I be concerned with high CH before it spirals out of control into scaling problems? My pool is 20k gal plaster with SWCG, and cartridge filter.

    FC: 10
    CC: 0
    pH: 7.6
    TA: 120
    CH: 900
    CYA: 110
    Salt: 3400

Should I proceed to lime softening when the pool looks fine? I would have to also purchase a vacuuming device, currently only have an automatic creepy crawly.

Normally, my tendency is to say, "If it's working, leave it alone".

But you have an SWCG, and calcium that high is likely to cause scaling. If you've been cleaning your SWCG regularly, and are not having problems with the plates being fouled with calcium, than you may want to leave it alone.

Of course, you want to make sure you are NOT chlorinating with anything that contains cal hypo (calcium hypochlorite).

Bottom line: if you have no scale build up on the tile line, and no problems with keeping your salt unit clean, leave it alone.
