    Default Here's my numbers

The test kit is a 5 way from Walmart.

    Water temp is 80 degrees
    Chlorine is .5
    PH is 6.8
    Alk is 30
    CYA was zero last Saturday
    24' round 48" deep
    14,400 gallons

I have been using 1" pucks because I don't have any CYA and trying to kill two birds with one stone (raising both CYA and chlorine). I have very little of the pucks left since opening the pool on Saturday.

Got rid of most of the debri by vacuum and backwash, skimmer has run 24/7 and can see the bottom of the pool. Tonight I added a whole box of borax to raise the PH and one 3" puck of cal-hypo to the floatie thing.

Am I on the right track?

    Thank You

    Nicole

The first questions I would have are what chemical was the 1" puck and are you sure the 3" puck is cal-hypo and not tri-chlor? Cal-hypo won't have CYA in it but tri-chlor will and you shouldn't put different types of chlorine in the same floater as there can be a bad reaction.

If you are using tri-chlor that will lower your pH as well. I would suggest getting the pH up above 7.2 as a low pH can cause damage to the liner. The Borax should dissolve quickly so you can check the level a couple hours after you put it in.

If you are using cal-hypo then you would need to add CYA also as the cal-hypo doesn't. In that case, you will probably have fewer problems if you use bleach (liquid chlorine). The cal hypo will add calcium which isn't a problem to vinyl liners but high levels could lead to cloudy water later on.
