Default Aquarite SWG not Generating Chlorine

I have an aquarite SWG. This is my first season with it and I am just starting it up. I have been running the SWG for a week and I do not believe it is generating any chlorine. I have been adding chlorine via the granules I have left over from last year just about every day.

    Here are the details:

I run my filter 12 hours a day: 6 hours late at night and six hours in the morning (enough to turn my water over 1-3/4 to 2 times per day). Every morning after running the filter for 6 hours overnight, I check the chlorine and it is usually 0.5 fc, 0 cc, 0.5 tc. I then add enough chlorine granules to bring it up to at least 5 ppm. The next morning I am back to either 0 or 0.5 fc again. The rest of my readings are:

    Alk 110
    Cal 220
    Ph 7.2
    CYA 50
    Salt 2900-3000 ppm
    27,000 gallons volume

I started the Aquarite at 50% output and have gradually been increasing it. I currently have the Aquarite set to 90% output. The typical readout on my aqualogic for the Aquarite Chlorine generator during its ON cycle is:

    26.27 Volts
    6.44 Amps
    83 Degrees F
    2900 ppm Salt

Any ideas? Is there anyway to verify the chlorine output. From what I have read the cell should get warm when it is generating chlorine. My unit does not seem to get warm at all.

    Pat.

I would call Goldline Control's tech support number. They are very helpful!
If you don't have it you can find it on their website www.goldlinecontrol.com and click on the 'contact us' link.

I agree with that statement, Goldline were very accomodating and didnt seem to flinch one bit when deciding to send a replacement unit even though I am less than 2 months away from the end of my warranty. I was expecting a bit of a fight, or stalling tactics so they could charge me for repairs, and at the very least I was expecting that they would want me to send my cell in for repairs and shut the pool down for a week or 2 while they make a decision but they just went through about 5 minutes of troubleshooting and verified my address and it was all done.

When you get the new cell, I would recommend checking the volts and amps soon after it is installed and turned on, and include date and time, so you will have a reference point.

I called Goldline controls. They suggested that I acid clean the cell. I did that today and have run the filter for 4 hours since with no noticable difference. Will call them again tomorrow.

Consider having your pool water tested for phosphates. I was having the same problem last year and discovered my phosphates were very high. It took some work to get rid of them, but whereas last year I was running at 80% with very little production, this year I am running at about 20%.

Also, slightly loosen the union at the downstream side of the cell and collect the water while the cell is generating. Test that water and see what the Cl tests.
