    Default Help with algae

I have a salt water above ground pool and am having problems with algae. My chlorine level was fine as I was told but I was told my phosphate level was very high. I cleaned out the algae once with shock and now it is back. Any suggestions? My alkalinity was originally low and ph a bit high so I added some acid. Algae went away for a day or two after cleaning pool but is now back.

It is going to be hard to help with a current set of water testing results including a CYA level. We also need to know the volume of the pool, size of pump, type and size of filter and exactly what all you have put in the pool, meaning ingredients and not just "shock."

You need a good test kit so you can test the water yourself. The one we recommend is the Taylor K-2006 or 2006C which you can get through the test kit link in my signature below.

You'll need to post test numbers before we can help. Also, how many gallons is your pool?
    We'll need to see:
    FC free chlorine
    CC combined chloramines
    TC total chlorine
    pH
    T/A total alkalinity
    CYA stabilizer
    CH calcium hardness (not critical)
    and
    Salt level
Also if there are any metals detected in your water what they are and how much.

Phosphate levels are irrelevant and it's more cost effective and generally effective to spend your money on sufficient bleach or liquid chlorine than on phosphate removers.
Many of our members have "high" phosphate levels and clean pools...sometimes SIX TIMES larger than pool stores say is "OK".
I have NO idea what my level is and never have and my pool is always crystal clear and sanitary.

PS: Watermom got her post in ahead of me! (J/K-- )
