Does anyone know if the temperature can be calibrated, or does it even matter for optimum generation

Autopilot does.

But, first find the unit model and serial, go to Autopilot's website ( http://www.autopilot.com/ ), download the manual, and see if it has the answer.

According to PoolSean, the temperature calculation in the Autopilot cannot be calibrated. The salt level can but is usually spot on.
The percentage of time the generator runs is a direct function of water temp--less when the water is colder.
