Default Cloudy Water - Advice please!

    Hi All,

Looking for advice on how to clear up my cloudy pool water. I've read a lot online and basically all the sites that seem reputable seem to narrow it down to mechanical or chemical but I'm really not sure how to proceed. Here are the facts and what I've done so far:

    - roughly 30,000 gallon gunite pool
    - original pool builit in 1978 but all mechanicals replaced in last 5 years
    - small inground spa a few feet next to pool with one skimmer
    - natural gas heater for pool and spa
    - opened pool about two weeks ago (was VERY dirty. I just bought the house in October and the pool was not closed properly until mid-October)
    - it has been thoroughly shocked and algaecide was added
    - all mechanicals APPEAR to be working fine (skimmers pulling in, jet pushing water out, filter running at reasonable pressure)
    - had water tested Thursday afternoon and all in all it was not bad. I was advised just to add about 25 lbs of Alkaline+ over the course of 3 days
    - also added clarifier which does not seem to have helped at all
    - the water is very blue but just very cloudy
    - I am located in Massachusetts in a sub-division

I am open to al suggestions!
    Thank you!

To be able to help, we really need some good testing numbers. If you don't have a good kit, that would be your first order of business. The one we recommend is the Taylor K-2006 or 2006C which you can find in the link in my signature below. (You will have to order it online as it will not be available locally.) In the meantime, pick up a cheap OTO kit (yellow and red drops) from Walmart. Tell us what all you have added to your pool --- meaning ingredients and not product names. Also, tell us what size pump you have and what type and size filter you have. Then, somebody here can hopefully help you get the pool cleared up.

    Welcome to the Pool Forum!
