Default Suction Leak Causes Pump Priming Problems

Hello I had to replace the motor on my pump. I brought it home and hooked it up, added water to prime it and then turned it on. The pump started, but it just will not get water flowing through it. I continue to add water to prime it but nothing happens. I have never had this problem in the past 12 years of opening the pool. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciate.

    Welcome to The Forum!

Are the valves on the suction lines open? And, how many suction lines (skimmers, main drain, vacuum port) do you have?

What I suspect is a major air leak before the pump.

What else can you tell us about what you disconnected or changed when you replaced the motor?

    Ted -

Thanks for your input. You were right, there must have been an air leak. I detached and then re-attached the pump to the input lines and put some white sealing tape on the threads. The pump finally started! What a relief as I feared I was headed for a toxic wasteland soon.

    Cheers,
    Tim
