From what little reading I have done it seems that salt water is not for above ground pools? I don't understand why.

Why? Intex makes an AG SWCG for smaller pools. I'm planning on installing an SWCG this spring as I'm going to be away a lot this summer and in the future summers. My pool as AG, although it's more like an IG being self-supporting (water is not a structural component) and rectangular.

I think the concern would be possible corrosion of the metal in a steel frame pool. Some manufacturers have clauses that void the warranty if salt is used.

Interesting. How will the salt reach it unless there's a leak?

Splash-out on the other side, I think. When my kids swim, I lose quite a large volume of water due to splashout.

I guess I will find out. Aqua Trol on the way. Sweet deal on Ebay for $420 shipped!
Salt water would void the warranty on my pool. Many of the components of my pool are galvanized steel - the top and bottom rails as well as the parts at each vertical that hold the rails together. I suppose salt water could accelerate the corrosion of these parts. I believe there are some AG pools that have all resin (plastic) components that warranty salt water use.
