    Default draining pool question/s

hello. i know responses may be slow right now since summer is over. anyway, any help will be appreciated. i need to drain my pool so i can slap on a coat of paint, or replaster, i'm not sure really all i know is that the surface is chipping. it doesn't chip cement but really thin like layers of what i think is old dried out epoxy??anyway, the water right now is pretty green since i stopped sanitizing due to i was planning on draining anyway.

my question is how to properly drain a pool. i thought i read or heard somewhere that if you allow water to reach too low levels that the pool can crack??? so that is my concern that if i drain improperly that i may damage my pool. pool is inground gunite pool. also, i would like to wash it f course before painting or replastering. is acid washing recomendable? thanks much for any help folks. happy thanksgiving.

I don't know that the problem is that it will crack, but if you have a high water table, you CAN float it out of the ground. I'll let some of the others that know more about resurfacing chime in, but I wouldn't drain it until you have some guidance.

Sorry you haven't gotten any reponses on this, it's just that we have very very little traffic this time of year. I'll shoot out a few emails to folks on this forum that I think could answer your questions and ask them to pop in....

    HI, I'm 'popping in'

Your worst enemy is ground/ surface water - it probably won't crack your pool but might cause it to float, which could be a bigger problem.

If you drain the pool to either replaster and/ or repaint, PLEASE be sure that the water under the pool won't get high enough to float the pool or wreck your improvements!

We can talk more about this if you have questions.
