Another option is to just not cover the pool. I don't cover my AG pool anymore. Haven't for several years.

Do you have winter pillows under the cover floating on the water? They can help take the slack out of the cover, too.
Carl
I do have a pillow under my cover.
A friend of mine has an inground pool and she uses long tubes filled with water around the inside of the pool to hold the cover down. Would that work for an above ground too?

OMG My winter cover is blowing like crazy..Have bubble underneath and 2 clips between all posts..Wind getting in by upright posts and all water on top is blown to one side...Cannot go without cover her in NE and I never remember a cover blowing so much though I do live by water now and it is windy............
Afraid to tie anything to grommets for fear of pulling them out.. There must be a satisfactory conclusion????????????????
15' round 5.7K gal AG vinyl pool; Bleach; Haywood DE filter; Haywood 1 1/4 pump; 4-12 hrs; Taylor K-2006 Tester; utility water; summer: solar; winter: Not bought yet; ; PF:21??
Having the same problem although it has been pretty windy yesterday and today. This is my first closing too. I haven't winched down the cover yet. I have bleach bottles with bungey cords holding it down for now along with some cover clips. I think I need some adjustement with mine. I noticed the the cover isn't sitting on the water which I think is why it's flapping around a lot. I'm going to be adjusting it some more after work. My cover clips keep falling off too which is annoying!

Winter covers are just a pain. That is why I tossed out the idea of using no cover. I haven't for years.
mroll --- I'm wondering why you say you can't go without a cover in the NE? One of the other moderators -- Poconos -- also lives in the NE and he also hasn't used a winter cover in years. He has very cold snowy winters where he lives as well and hasn't had a problem with not covering his pool.
For me, I think I need the cover because I have full grown Pin Oaks all around my pool. They start dropping leaves in September and don't finish until January.
