I'm sure Mark or one of the other equipment foks will chime in here, but I believe you'll need to run the pump on high for sweeping.
I currently have a single speed pump and the sweeper seems to need quite a bit suction to roam around. Since the variable speed pumps go slower will the sweeper work or will I have to speed up the pump for sweeping.

I agree that higher speeds will probably be necessary for the vacuum to work properly. One of the downsides of a variable speed pump or even a two speed operating at the low speeds, there is less flow rate so not as much suction. Most people just run the vacuum at higher speed for a short period of time during the day.
