Cool D.E. Filter & Pool Pump Sizing "Rule of Thumb"

Is there a Rule of Thumb for sizing a D.E. filter to the pool gallon size? What should the ratio of the D.E. Filter gallon rating for 8 hours be to the actual pool gallons. What should the pump gpm be compared to the filter size stated gpm rating?

For lack of more information we have decided to use the Pentair 60 sq ft DE filter instead of the original proposed 48 sq ft filter in our 20,000 gallon salt water pool.
My thinking is bigger is better? The 60 sq ft is listed as 57,600 gallon in 8 hr. Maybe I can get by with running it several times per day for less time. I will be using the Pentair 3hp variable speed pump. Does anyone see a reason not to use the Pentair 60 sq ft DE filter? Is 5 hour filter run time out of the question? (Also installing Pentair IC60 SWCG)

APSP-15/NSF 50 standards are as follows:

    Cartridge: 0.375 sqft/GPM
    Sand: 15 sqft/GPM
    DE: 2 sqft/GPM

The same standards suggest using a 6 hour turnover as the flow rate. Personally, I think you are better off sizing the pump for 8 hours and the filter for a 4 hour turnover. That way you have a correctly sized pump and an over sized filter which is a good thing.
