    Question Ph ?

Hi, I have a question. I checked my pool on Saturday 9/08/12. MY results were FC 6, CC 0 PH 7.3, CYA 55. The solar cover has been on. I added 6 cups of Borax trying to raise PH so I could get ready to close pool. I checked again 9/12/2012 and the results are FC 3.5, CC 0, PH still 7.3, CYA 55, TA 90. My PH did not rise. WHY ? and what should I do? I also added 2 cups bleach 9/12. SC still on, WT is 80 F. Anything else I should do before closing? Thanks! It's been a great first year ! I sure appreciate your advice.

take the cover off so CO2 can gas off. That is the reason your pH is not rising.

Okay, I did take cover off. It has been a week now and my ph is still at 7.3 Can you tell how much Borax I need to add to bring the ph up. How far should I take it for closing? What is considered shock level for my pool with a CYA of 60? Thank You!

I would take the pH up to around 7.8 before closing. Try a third of a box of Borax at a time and see how much that changes it. Shock level for a CYA of 60 would be 20. Don't try and test the pH when your chlorine is high, however, as you'll get falsely high pH readings.
