    Smile Emptying Pool Water..To Where?

I plan to get my 24,000 gallon concrete pool replastered soon. I feel dumb asking but, where do I put 24,000 gallons of water! That is 3 loaded tractor trailer tankers full of water. I know you can buy water to fill a pool, but where to dump 24K gallons of water? Thanks, Tony

Probably depends on where you live. Here in (urban) California, we're required to drain pool water down the sewer to keep it from contaminating the watershed. There's a normal sewer cleanout at the back of the house (for clearing stoppages). I just run a hose from the waste outlet to the cleanout (it looks like a big plastic bolt plugged into the end of a plastic pipe) and pump away.

I was told that you have to be careful that the volume of the water coming out of your pump is not too much for the drain pipes. If it is, the theory goes that you could have sewage backing up into your house! Have you had this issue Scott?

Our waste line is just a standard hose bib and that limits the outbound flow. When I first drained, I rather timidly inserted the hose and watched really carefully, half expecting to see water gurgling out the kitchen drain (the cleanout is just below the kitchen). Turned out to not be an issue.

How well do you like your neighbors? I say let if flood the yard of the neighbor that you don't like.
Just kidding. Normally a backwash hose is run to the street so that it can drain out to a normal drainage field or gutter drain.
You should check with your local code enforcement.
