We aren't really going to be able to help without a set of current water testing numbers taken with a drops-based kit -- no test strips. You say that your chemical numbers have been correct but that obviously can't be right or the pool wouldn't turn green. (Dirt won't turn a pool green.) The kit we recommend is the Taylor K2006 or 2006C which you can get through the test kit link in my signature below. it is only available online so you need to get something to use in the meantime. Go to Walmart and see if they have the HTH 6-Way kit (not strips). If not, at the very least, get a cheap OTO/Phenol Red (yellow and red drops) kit. Also, get several jugs of plain, unscented 6% bleach (generic is fine), a couple boxes of 20 Mule Team Borax (laundry aisle) and a jug of distilled water.

Post back with numbers. Also, please put your pool's information into our pool chart as it makes it easier for people here to help you.

What kind of filter is it? DE? Cartridge?

Just to echo what Watermom said; construction doesn't cause algae. It might make your pool more prone to get algae, but if you have your chemistry right, you won't get algae.

The problem is, pool stores and especially pool chemical companies make FAR more money if your pool is messed up, then if it's running smoothly!

Give us the info, and we'll help you fix the problem.
