    Thanks,
we just want a basic 32x16 free form pool with a spa. Quarts stone coping with a 6 inch raised bond beam in the back, gray plaster, a 5ft reef step and 400 sqft of decking around half the pool. My yard is generally flat and I will have the fence down and ready to roll for them. I had a trusted pool company who a lot of my friends used and he they can do it for $36,000 which is fairly cheap. $31,000 if he was just the consultant for me. If I can save 10,000$ on this I'm definitely up for the task. If I'm only saving 5,000 I would rather not attempt it.
I started calling around to get bids and 90% of the contractors I left messages with never got back to me, so I can already tell this wont be easy.
Any advise would be greatly appreciated.

For 31 v.s. 36, I'd let him do the pool and save yourself 20 worth of headaches.

If you want to save ~ 50%- you could GC it yourself, but would probably loose a good % of any warranty that the pro would provide.

$5000 is 'small' v.s. the time and energy spent dealing with the subcontractors yourself, it's a decision you have to make, but we'll be here to bounce the choices off of.

    AWESOME! thanks
I'm still doing a lot of research trying to make the decision. I think the hardest part is going to be finding trustworthy good contractors. I will keep the forum posted.
    Thanks for the input.
